PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

This role maintains and repairs heavy-line fixed and mobile equipment for the railroad tie plant so that equipment breakage and downtime is minimized.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Uses welding and cutting tools to maintain and repair equipment and enable safe operation
  • Inspects and replaces equipment parts such as engines, tires, hydraulic cylinders, etc
  • Services engines and exchanges fluids in equipment as needed
  • Rigorously follows safety procedures to ensure safe working conditions for themselves, plant workers, and equipment operators
  • Assumes duties of Maintenance Supervisor when necessary
  • Demonstrates operational excellence by knowing and applying the business requirements. Demonstrates customer focus and contingency planning to ensure stakeholder expectations are met
  • Understands the relevant business metrics and applies effective tactics to sustain a culture of operational effectiveness that produces teams of high performing, engaged and empowered operational leaders
  • Identifies when a rule/regulation/policy has been violated and has one-on-one accountability conversations with an individual who has not met expectations
  • Defines and communicates clearly the team's roles and responsibilities; holds people accountable for accomplishing objectives; recognizes and rewards people who achieve results and deliver on performance expectations; provides pinpointed (specific & measurable) feedback on performance
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Minimum one (1) year of relevant operations experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Acumen in one or more disciplines of railroad operations
  • This position has a regular full-time schedule with a normal work week of Monday through Friday. There may be a need for occasional work after hours or weekends.
  • This position may require minimal travel up to 10% of the time

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
