**POSITION SUMMARY:** The objectives of the job are to (1) service and clean the diesel locomotive fleet; (2) operate locomotives between various shop locations and service tracks; (3) clean and maintain repair shop and service areas; (4) operate tools and machines; and (5) assure safety of self and coworkers.

**Position requirements:**

READ AND UNDERSTAND JOB INFORMATION WRITTEN IN ENGLISH. Must be able to read and understand posted bulletins, regulations, rule books, and manufacturer manuals.

**Communicate with Coworkers:** Must be able to provide advisory/alert information to coworkers; use discussion to coordinate work with coworkers; use hand signals to direct hostlers.

**Witten Communication**. Must be able to accurately transcribe numbers, letters, or words on to forms, such as supply requisitions and inspection reports.

**Learning & Memory**. Must be able to Learn, recall and apply work procedures and rules relevant to job functions.

**Problem Solving**. Must be able to anticipate, evaluate, and consider the consequences of various actions when required to make on-the-job decisions without benefit of supervision.

**Technical Competencies**: Must be able to identify and use common shop tools, instruments, and machines described above.

**Teamwork:** Must be able to work in a team environment that requires cooperation with others, offering help when needed, and maintain positive working relationships.

**Vison & Hearing**

**Physical Activities**: Must be able to exert physical strength sufficient to lift/carry and push/pull objects weighing 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally (often with assistance); occasionally line switches and derails in service areas; climb stairs and ladders and maintain balance on locomotive steps and ladders to gain access to locomotive cab; maintain balance on catwalks and around moving equipment; perform occasional work while bending and stooping; perform occasional overhead work for short periods of time; remain standing or sitting for more than one-half of every work day with the opportunity periodically to change position for comfort.

**Work conditions:**

**Physical Environment:** Some assignments may be performed out of doors involving exposure to all weather conditions while others may be performed primarily inside major shops; must be able to climb and work at elevations more than 12 feet above ground (infrequently); work may involve exposure to exhaust fumes, water, fuel, oil, and solvents.

**Position Schedule:** Must be willing to work shift assignments that may include variable shifts with overtime, weekend, or holidays.

**Safety**: Functions performed on or around moving or rotating equipment and on oil covered ramps and walkways; work involves potential of exposure to solvents, fuel, and oil.
