Summary
Performs the following tasks in classrooms to assist teaching staff of elementary or secondary schools by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Works with students with disabilities in all educational settings individually and/or groups to provide instructional support.
Implements the instructional plan as developed with the classroom teacher as it pertains to the core
curriculum. Monitors and adjusts the instructional plan based on student needs. Conveys knowledge that is accurate and current.
Implements strategies and accommodations as developed with the classroom teacher as it pertains to the
student's Individual Education Program, Emergency Health Plans monitoring student safety in various educational settings.
Maintain a log/schedule providing support to students with disabilities within the inclusive, resource and self-contained classrooms.
Assists in the routine supervision of study areas, cafeterias, halls, playground, instructional field trips and bus loading areas when applicable for students with disabilities.
Performs non-complex health procedures, implements Individual Health Plans as applicable, attends necessary non-complex health training as prescribed by board policy and state law. Lifting and positioning of students as applicable.
Implements strategies that reinforce positive student behavior. Works closely with the classroom teacher to
implement positive behavior supports and Behavior Plans as applicable. Positively interact when the student is inappropriate to redirect to attention on task. Handle with Care training required as applicable.
Assists students in using computer applications and related assistive technology.
Maintains confidentially of student information and progress as it relates to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned as it relates to supporting students with disabilities and teachers/administrative staff.
