As a Senior Technician, you will deliver top-notch support by carrying out new customer installations, repairing equipment, and troubleshooting issues. This position offers a clear career path with numerous opportunities for growth and learning.
What you will do to contribute to the company's success
Ensure high-quality connectivity for Sparklight by troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions in the Headend, HFC and fiber optic networks, and Home Terminal Units.
Support customers by repairing both local plant performance issues and customer-owned equipment using professional electronic test equipment.
Assist in the enhancement of our services by interpreting system/network design maps, verifying documentation, and reporting findings according to company standards.
Splice and terminate coaxial and fiber optic cables, mount active and passive devices (both aerial and underground), activate devices, and conduct tests to ensure optimal performance as per company, manufacturer, and design specifications.
Conduct surveys to assess if customer-requested locations can receive services, creating necessary maps/drawings for estimating costs for plant/drop extensions as needed.
Accurately perform underground facility locates using plant maps and electronic locating equipment to prevent cable damage and service interruptions.
Execute construction maintenance tasks including splicing and activating coaxial and fiber optic cables to restore plant specifications and repairing/upgrading damaged aerial/underground plant.
Continuously monitor the plant for signal leakage and perform track and repair activities as required.
Provide training to system technical personnel as directed by management.
Qualifications
A one-year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to four years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must complete the Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months of hiring.
Familiarity with signal level meters, volt-ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometers (TDRs), optical time domain reflectometers (OTDRs), and related testing equipment.
Knowledge of rules and regulations from various regulatory bodies impacting telecommunications operations, including FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, and DOT regulations.
A valid driver's license from the state of employment is required.
The position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including responding to service interruptions, and being available for overtime, weekends, evenings, and holidays as necessary.
