Job Title: Final Assembly Inspector

Department: Louisiana Association for the Blind (L.A.B.) Distribution Center

Wage Category: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Assistant Director, Laser, Design and Die (LDD)

Overview: The Final Assembly Inspector is responsible for assembling, kitting, and inspecting products to ensure they meet established quality standards and customer specifications. This role supports production efficiency, product accuracy, and quality compliance while working in an accessible, team-oriented manufacturing environment.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Assembly

  • Assemble components and subassemblies using standardized processes, fixtures, and accessible equipment.
  • Follow detailed work instructions and maintain compliance with company quality standards.
  • Use tactile labeling, adaptive measuring tools, and audio/visual aids to verify parts, quantities, and assembly steps.
Kitting
  • Perform kitting operations by gathering, counting, and packaging parts into designated kits for production or customer orders.
  • Ensure that all kits are accurately labeled and prepared according to specifications.
Quality Assurance
  • Remove products that do not meet production standards and recommend strategies to improve product quality.
  • Check parts against prints and specifications; complete inspection reports.
  • Document packages for presentation to the customer.
  • Perform a wide variety of final inspection duties with minimal supervision.
Communication and Collaboration
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and timely order completion.
  • Communicate inspection results, quality concerns, and improvement recommendations to the production team.
  • Report equipment issues, defective parts, or production concerns promptly to a team leader or supervisor.
  • Participate in training related to quality procedures, accessibility tools, and safety practices.
General Support
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe workstation.
  • Provide kitting and assembling support to various departments, as a floater, when needed.
Accessibility and Support
  • Adaptive equipment and assistive technology (such as screen readers, magnification devices, tactile gauges, or talking scales) provided as needed.
  • Work instructions available in accessible formats (braille, large print, or digital with screen reader compatibility).
  • Ongoing training and accommodations provided to support independence and success in the role.
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing floor with structured workstations designed for accessibility.
  • Moderate noise level; safety equipment provided.
  • Collaborative, team-focused environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 35-40 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and safely stack boxes on pallets or shelving.
  • Ability to remain seated or stand at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity for handling small parts, tools, and assembly
  • Mobility to move within the manufacturing floor as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions, tactile guides, and accessible documentation.
  • Comfortable working with small parts and hand tools (training provided as needed).
  • Effective problem-solving skills and adaptability to various assembly or kitting tasks.
  • Team-oriented with good communication skills.
  • Must be able to follow directions and read product and part specifications.
  • Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve problems.
