Job Summary:

As a Meat Department Associate, you will prepare meat products by accurately weighing, wrapping, and labeling them. You will ensure that our market and seafood display cases are always stocked with fresh, high-quality meats while also providing exceptional customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare processed meat for display by packaging and labeling products accurately, ensuring correct pricing and signage according to sales ads.
  • Adhere to quality control and food safety standards by stocking and rotating products, keeping coolers and freezers organized, and following governmental labeling regulations.
  • Inspect products for freshness based on texture, color, and aroma.
  • Promote product sales through effective suggestive selling techniques.
  • Organize pallets and sort products efficiently according to company standards.
  • Provide outstanding customer service by greeting shoppers, answering inquiries, and fulfilling requests.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment in compliance with company safety protocols.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to read and operate digital scales and equipment.
  • Capability to safely operate and maintain department equipment.
  • Proficient with precision and non-precision hand tools.
  • Ability to operate a manual or electric pallet jack safely.
  • Experience working with sharp tools and equipment safely.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Effective communication skills in both written and verbal formats.
  • Flexibility to work various schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Attentiveness to potential hazards and readiness to address them promptly.
  • Promptly report hazards that cannot be immediately resolved to a supervisor.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be 21 years or older to drive for company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
  • One or more years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • On-the-job training is typically provided.
  • Food Handler certification is required.
Physical Demands:
  • Continuously required to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and focus.
  • Regularly required to stand or walk throughout the shift.
  • Frequently required to reach, touch or handle items.
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, squat, or stoop.
  • Frequently required to lift or maneuver objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Attendance at work is essential.
Work Context and Environment:
  • Work is generally performed in a retail store environment.
  • Frequent exposure to cold conditions (non-weather related).
  • Frequent exposure to wet, slippery, or damp surfaces.
  • Regular exposure to cleaning agents.
  • Regularly working with equipment that has sharp blades or edges.
  • Moderate to loud noise levels are expected.
