Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) is one of five campuses within the Historically Black Southern University System. The University serves approximately 3,180 undergraduate students and employs 413 full- and part-time staff, including 175 faculty members. SUSLA offers 33 undergraduate degree programs and awards about 350 degrees annually.

The main campus, located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, spans more than 100 acres with 11 buildings. Additional instructional sites include the Downtown Metro Center for allied health programs and the Aerospace Technology Center at the Shreveport Downtown Airport, which houses FAA-approved aerospace technology and maintenance programs.

The Southern Univeristy Police Deparment is currently accepting applications for the position of Administrative Assistant 3. This role provides advanced administrative and secretarial support to a professional, supervisor, or manager. Responsibilities may also include highly skilled keyboarding, transcription, and document preparation. Employees perform duties with a high level of independence and exercise sound judgment when handling non-routine situations.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience in administrative services.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Responds to requests for information and interprets departmental rules and regulations.

  • Composes and types correspondence for supervisory signature.

  • Compiles reports using information from various documents and electronic files.

  • Organizes and maintains confidential files and reference materials.

  • Prepares meeting materials including agendas, handouts, and binders.

  • Assists with administrative tasks such as payroll preparation, travel reports, and supply orders.

  • Types correspondence, reports, and records from drafts or dictation.

  • Attends meetings and records or transcribes minutes.

  • Proofreads documents for accuracy in spelling, grammar, and format.

  • Maintains electronic filing systems and retrieves data to create reports and documents.
