The Nursing Assistant (NA) function as a member of the Nursing Care Team and assist Licensed Nursing Staff in the care of patients/residents receiving preventative, acute, sub-acute chronic, maintenance and hospice care. This position will be located in the Ambulatory Care Unit within Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.Total Rewards of a Allied Health ProfessionalPerforms the following duties using the appropriate technique per facility/assigned unit guidelines:* Measure and record vital signs, intake and output, and weights* Meets personal hygiene needs such as bathing, lifting, turning and feeding* Performs EKG testing.* Duties may also include transport activities (transfer of patients to and from /units) and delivering lab specimens to laboratory.* Performs oropharyngeal, nasopharyngeal and tracheal suctioning, performs routine tracheotomy care, instructs patient in use of incentive spirometer.* Perform and documents finger sticks as ordered and necessary.* Demonstrates knowledge of side effects of selected medication such as psychotropic drugs in geriatric population.* Instruct and assist patients with dressing and undressing in preparation for an examination.* Assists with procedures, including preparing equipment and supplies, having all necessary items present, and in preparing the patient for the procedure.
