We are a leading neurology practice dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients with neurological conditions. Renowned for our commitment to patient-centered innovation and collaboration, we are seeking a meticulous and patient-focused Insurance Verification Specialist to support our team.

The Neurology Patient Insurance Verification Specialist will primarily be responsible for confirming the accuracy of patient insurance information, verification of benefits, interpreting benefits in terms of the practice's neurology services (such as EMG/NCV, EEGs, Office Based E/M Codes), and ensuring all necessary documentation is collected for billing. This role is critical in our commitment to providing seamless neurology care and minimizing delays in treatment.

Responsibilities:

  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for all patients prior to their appointments.
  • Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting CPT codes, authorization requirements, and related payer information to assess eligibility, secure approvals (including prior authorizations for neurology-specific procedures), and prevent claim denials.
  • Enter, update, and maintain accurate patient and insurance details in the practice management system.
  • Communicate with patients to clarify discrepancies in the insurance information and to explain their insurance coverage as it pertains to our neurology services.
  • Collaborate with the billing department to address any issues that may affect the billing process.
  • Work closely with insurance providers to resolve issues and gather information.
  • Assist patients with questions regarding their insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and other federal/state regulations related to patient information and privacy.
  • Enter patient information into both Phreesia and Allscripts EHR.
  • Miscellaneous billing tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in healthcare insurance verification, medical billing, or a related role; experience in a neurology or specialty practice preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 codes, including those specific to neurology (e.g., for diagnostic testing and procedures).
  • Proficiency with practice management software and electronic health records (EHR). We currently use Allscripts (Veradigm) EMR system.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance processes, including understanding of different types of insurance plans (PPO, HMO, EPO, Medicaid/Medicare, etc.) and medical billing practices, with an emphasis on specialty care requirements.
