QUALIFICATIONS:

1. At least 20 years of age.
2. Possess a high school diploma or equivalency (GED).
3. Possess a current CPR and First Aid certificate by July 30 of every year
4. Ability to lift/carry up to 40 lbs occasionally. Ability to squat/kneel for up to 2 minutes.
5. Pass physical.

REPORTS TO: Bus Driver, Supervisor or Transportation JOB GOAL : To monitor the health and safety of the students PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Has knowledge of safety devices.
2. Monitors the health and safety of the students
3. Assists with loading and unloading of students and assists students with transfers from one bus to another when necessary. At the transfer point: Takes students to assigned buses. Be courteous and cooperative.
4. Assists with health maintenance which may include routine and/or emergency health procedures as instructed by the School Nurse. (This may include catheterization, tracheotomy care, monitoring blood sugar, administering emergency care, etc.)
5. Assists with behavior management plans, behavior intervention and monitoring behavior. This includes restraining of student(s) when necessary.
6. Fastens seat belts, safety vest and wheelchair tie-downs and assists with the lift during each transport.
7. Maintains accurate attendance records by keeping a daily controlled log of student attendance on assigned bus.
8. Performs other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor. (This includes the bus driver, Transportation Department staff and principal of assigned school(s).
9. Must attend mandatory training sessions as directed by the school principal and/or Transportation staff. This training includes a yearly update of the following information:
   • Personnel Information
   • Confidentiality
   • Medical Information
   • Discipline
   • Job description review
   • CPI, when necessary
   • Safety and evacuation procedures
   • CPR and First Aid training

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine (9) months. Bus assignments for Special Education bus aides are based on student population. Times may vary depending on bus route. This is not a tenured position. EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy by the immediate supervisor. Return to work physicals may apply.
